Immigration Legal Workshop

An immigration lawyer will make a presentation to parishioners st St. Camillus Church (Silver Spring, MD) about immigration law and the legal rights of immigrants. The event will be held in the Camilia Room following the 12:30pm Spanish Mass.

JPIC Latino Retreat

Members of the JPIC Latino Committee at St. Camillus (Silver Spring, MD) will meet with Philippe Hensel, biologist, National Oceanographic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA), to learn about the impact of human behavior on the environment. In response, the Committee members will identify how to educate parishioners and encourage community and personal behaviors that protect God’s creation. The all-day event will take place at a local Maryland state park (TBD).

St. Camillus Ministry Fair

The 3rd annual St. Camillus Ministry Fair offers an opportunity for parishioners, between Masses, to visit tables and displays prepared by the various parish ministries. Parishioners can sign up and a leader of a ministry follows up with the parishioner to investigate interest and possible future involvement. The Fair will be held throughout the morning and will be set up on the grounds of the parish campus between the church and Friary (Silver Spring, MD).

Interfaith Peacemakers Workshop

St. Camillus Parish (Silver Spring, MD) will host an interfaith event with representatives of other Christian denominations as well as the local Jewish and Muslim communities. The workshop will explore the notion of peace/shalom/salaam from respective faith traditions. Participants will also share with one another ways in which they have responded to the call to be peacemakers in their individual lives and in the community. The event will be held in the afternoon in the Camilia Room.

Alternative Christmas Fair

The 3rd annual Alternative Christmas organized by the St. Camillus Church (Silver Spring, MD) JPIC Ministry offers parishioners a way to support others and offer gifts in response to the loving gift of God’s Son, Jesus. In the past two years, the focus of Alternative Christmas was flood recovery efforts in Haiti and support for women’s health and orphans in the Congo. This year, the Alternative Christmas Fair will feature the CRS Sustainable Water Project, Fair Trade, Heifer International, and the Holy Land Ecumenical Foundation. The event will be held both weekend days in the St. Francis Room and at the back of the church.

Maryland United for Peace and Justice Conference

In 2011, St. Camillus Church (Silver Spring, MD) will host the annual conference of MD United for Peace and Justice, which is made up on religious and secular organizations in the State of Maryland dedicated to communicating about and supporting peace and justice efforts. The group will meet throughout the day in the Camilia Room.
